no, you don't crochet it in 15 minutes....that took me a lot
longer. the 15 minutes refers to the amount of time you can lay under
it without falling asleep. totally serious, this blanket is so
notorious we had to take it out of the media room because none of us
made it to the end of the movie.
it started out as a random
blanket. sam asked me to crochet him a blanket that would cover his
whole body so i made it over a 100 inches long. (long enough to cover
the whole couch at the time) i bought all sorts of yarns - different
colors, textures, thicknesses. the only stipulation was they were in
the same rust/green/off white family of colors and they all had to be
machine washable. i used a double crochet/chain/double crochet stitch
that gave it a lacy look.
the idea behind the blanket is this:
work with a large hook (i think i used an S - the real big plastic one)
put all your yarn in a large box or tote with the ends sticking up
randomly pull two strands from the collection and start crocheting
crochet in this pattern:
row 1- colors A,B
row 2 - colors B,C
row 3 - colors C, D
(get the idea? i had like 20 different yarns...this is a great scrap quilt)
i
later did one for my MIL that is now in my bedroom - it was all
variegated worst weights so the afghan looks like confetti. i will try
to snap a pic of it soon....
here is samuel under the 15 minute blanket....20 minutes in....
